Sunset Films founded by Richard Brown descended on us Saturday 15th October. It is a not for profit film company that helps media students finding it difficult after leaving university to practice their craft in the field and to help them find roles in the TV and Film industry.
They decided to film a series called Victoria’s Islands featuring some of the 140 islands in Victoria and approached various TV stations with the idea.
Melbourne’s Channel 31 will air the series in prime time and it is also being considered by all the other state community TV satiations as well as Channel 7 and 9.
Lisa Williams, their researcher for the episodes approached us and explained that we are the second
island after Phillip Island Victoria to be to be filmed. In her words they “stumbled across our website “and decided to cover the koala trail.
They started the day with a ride on one of James Frecheville’s restored motor boats and then visited his workshop to view his current projects.
They then interviewed Gerry Gillon of Glass Art. They loved her work and told us after visiting her that she showed them some “inspiring’’ examples of her craft.
The crew also interviewed Andrew Bould about our history and they showed a keen interest in Andrew’s knowledge of our flora and fauna.
Finally they covered the trail with Jill Johannsen talking about the Ferry Park and the large number of volunteers involved in creating it. Jill spotted eight or nine koalas, the most “cooperative” one in front of the William’s house in a tree which Bernadette explained is known as the “mating tree’’.  One of the males started grunting, much to the delight of the film crew.
We were impressed with the professional approach of the team, the research they did about our island, their enthusiasm, consideration and the interest they showed during their stay here.
They will advise us when the episode goes to air in the new year.
