STORY OF THE WEEK
These photos and story were supplied by Alan and Ross Hurst from 4th.
"This Kookaburra is one of the friendliest " wild " birds we have come across. He hangs around the place as if he owns it..
He is so tame we can stroke his back. When he first started visiting us we tried to frighten him away as we were worried that he would eat our goldfish in the outside pond. NO ! He was after far better meals than that. He only likes chicken and prime meat. He has become such a good friend that we have to close the back door otherwise he would simply " walk " in. "
When we asked the Hursts if the bird had a name Alan told us that they call him BBQ, when asked why BBQ ?
Alan explained that after all he is a Kooka ( groan )
We thank Alan and Ros for sharing BBQ with us.

Hi all !
Day started off with doubts as the rain drizzled down.
However luckily it stopped around mid morning and we ended up with a dry but light wind day.
Good for the learners.
Had a good show of boats and visitors. From sail boats to a paddle steamer(electric),he cheated a bit.
A couple of speed boats and model fishing boat.
All in all a great day for everyone.
May even pickup a couple of new members for the club.
We had a great day. Will do it again.
cheers, Alan
ps Have attached photos. Enjoy !

Someone else’s ferry one
Hi
Here is another ferry. A very simple operation and easy to maintain as all the mechanicals are on the deck.
It is the Jardine River ferry nearly at the top of Cape York Peninsula, $80-00 return valid for a month only.

Story of the week
Hi everyone
For those who followed the Rabbit islands story in RIM we discovered on our recent holidays that there is at least one more Rabbit Island.
We just came back from a beautiful holiday in Cambodia and Laos and discovered on our last week at the south east coast of Cambodia, via Kep, a little island called Rabbit Island. It's about the same size or just a bit bigger than Raymond Island and is surrounded by water !!! You take a 20min boat ride there and voila... there are small wooden huts with hammocks for $7.00 a night available, small restaurants with fresh seafood and yummy local food, and the best body massages right there on the beach for (wait for that)$5.00 for a whole hour - pure bliss.
Have enclosed a few pictures, just to clarify this matter.
Looking forward, as always, to the next monthly RI Newsletter
Cheers and keep up the good work.

We thought you might be interested in seeing someone else’s ferry.
It crosses the Clarence River about 80 km south of Ballina. Not very big, BUT VERY CHEAP
We did not hang around up there as we had to get home to water our nature strip as it seemed to be dying.
Cheers
John Martin
