The HOUSE THAT MOVED
Let me start off by saying that it was a sad day for the houses that live in the neighbourhood around Gravelly Point Rd and Western Boulevard . One of theirs was moving.
None of the houses wanted to be quoted, but they were quite vocal " off the record " . However the " house that moved " was happy to talk about its past.
" I have been in this possie for about 45 years and for the last 22 was occupied by Trevor and Gayle Work, from Sale , That was a great time. The Works used me for all their holidays.
Their children loved me and couldn't wait for school holidays so they could come to me. For years and years they never missed. They have grown up, but now their own children spend their holidays with me.
.
Your readers might be interested in knowing that Trevor and Gayle's ancestors have a strong connection with Raymond Island. Gayle's father and mother Fred and Adelaide Dyer owned land here 53 years ago to be exact.
Gayle's sisters and brother camped there until her Dad and Mum sold the land some 30 years later . Trevor and Gayle bought me 22 years ago. Trevor with his brother and sisters spent lots of holidays on the Island with their grandmother, Myrtle Hobbs, who lived here for many years.
So you see, all in all, 5 generations have been associated with the Island. I will miss them all!
But, by the time you read this and look at the pictures I am no longer an Islander. My future will be as a farm house in Ensay. I am looking forward to the next step in my life..
I had to be cut in half so I fitted onto the ferry. They promised to put me together again.
Thanks to all you islanders for making my stay such a memorable one. Enjoy the pictures of me "
