Some reflections on the Ferry by a person who works full time and lives on Raymond Island
I often brag that I get a boat ride
to work and home again each work day.
I was once told time spent on a boat does not count in your overall life span.
I get to see dolphins
frolicking in the water
I have never been late to work due to the ferry breaking down (pre SMS messaging as well).
I have never been able to use the excuse that I can’t get to work due to the ferry not working (shame about that).

I am the only person at work who had to walk ‘the plank’ for a week to get to work

It is a time to unwind
after a busy day at work
When I first came to the Island I was often the only car on the 8 am and 5.15 pm ferries. Now the ferry is nearly always full at these times.

People often say what do you do when you miss the ferry?  I reply I wait for it to come back as it is continuous when I go to work and when I come home.
Would a bridge help me to get to work quicker?  Maybe by a couple of minutes but I would not enjoy seeing the morning sun reflected on the still waters of McMillan Straits, watch the water traffic or the majestic pelicans landing on the water as I would be driving my car and not enjoying my boat ride.
