Koala Shelters
As Wildlife Shelters, we rescue all sick or injured native wildlife.
We look after koalas, all other animals or birds are transferred to
other shelters who specialise in a particular species.
On rescuing a koala ,it is examined for injury, made as comfortable as possible ,
then taken to Bairnsdale for a vet check as soon as appointments can be made.
In consultation with the vet the koala is accessed and treatment decided on.
Many are deemed unviable eg. will not be able to be released back into the wild.
In this case they are humanly euthanised. This is the  heartbreaking part of being a carer.
The rewarding part  is caring for and eventually releasing a koala back in the wild,
to see them months later, happy and healthy in their Island habitat.

YOU CAN HELP CARE

Please place a shallow water bowl around your property during hot weather.
Koalas do drink during the hot dry weather. The greatest threat to all our
wildlife is the destruction of their habitat.
Thank you to all who support our fund raising ventures ,
as this money raised goes to the vet bills and supplementary food.
We give all sick koalas special marsupial milk.
The vet sees the koalas pro bono , but all pathology eg blood tests,
ultra sounds etc and medication have to be paid for .

Thank you to Ian Lewis and the boys , who give us fast transport
on the ferry when we take kolas to the vet. They do not travel well especially in hot weather.
